Parle's 'Mango Bite' Candy is Unsafe

Thane, Oct 14 (PTI): The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has asked Parle Products to recall from the market the entire stock of its popular candy “Mango Bite” branding it “unsafe”.

Officials of the FDA Konkan Division recently raided two locations in Raigadh and Bhiwandi and seized stock of the finished goods and ingredients, valued at Rs 2 crore.

According to FDA, the manufacturer Parle Biscuits Pvt Ltd at Kirkhinde in Khopoli (Raigadh) used buffered lactic acid (adulterant) in the confectionery which is not permitted.

Joint Commissioner of FDA (Food) S K Shere said the seized goods include Sugar Boiled Confectionery (Parle Kachha Mango Bite) packed in jars valued at Rs 1,46,68,400. Besides, the team also seized around 8158 kg of buffered lactic acid valued at Rs 10.60 lakh. The samples of the seized goods have been sent to lab for testing, the officer said.

The stock of Mango Bite was also seized from the godown at Bhiwandi, FDA officials said.

The FDA has directed the company to recall the stock of Mango Bite in the market and a final decision on the matter would be taken only after the test report is received.

Officials said that lactic acid was “harmful and unsafe” but cannot be declared as unfit for human consumption. Its use is banned by the Food Authority of India. The use of lactic acid (chiefly found in milk products) was banned in foodstuff after a bench found it not good for consumption for its tooth decaying side effects.

Corporates and governance go hand in hand. You can't run a government or win an election without the corporate guys. Inflation, stock market almost everything related to finance is controlled partially by the corporateS and not by the government. It's the corporates or companies who win elections for individuals and not candidates themselves. THINK ABOUT IT..

In Mangalore due to acute shortage of coins, many shop Keepers give Mango Bite instead of coins. So, Mango Bite and other cheap chocolates are now named as 'Chillarey'. Will the shop keepers now stop giving Mango bite instead of coins as this is d unsafe by FDA ?.

Why shop keepers are not taking back these 'Chillarey -Candies' from us when we give them these candies while we do not have small coins to give against our big purchases ?

Its Looks Very funny that We have also a FDA and If they have been bribed they can Approve the Posion also as food Stuff Really I am fed up with this indian system. It recalls the Issue there is pesticides found in the Pepsi/ Cock & FDA has planned to ban that but after few days the Great Sushma Swaraj told the media that It is safe & no issues of pesticides this is all the power of money Just think How much bribe she has taken for one single Statement. Its India.

Let us agree for their claim “unsafe for human consumption” but same time they have to disclose why it is unsafe and what is the impact if someone already consumed it? It means we do not have a system to test a product before it comes to market for sale!!! It’s like an Election Commissioners Office in India, if election s all the rules will be displayed else who cares for the rule?
