New Delhi, Oct 12 (IANS): India Against Corruption (IAC) member Arvind Kejriwal and his supporters were detained Friday while protesting against cabinet minister Salman Khurshid and his wife.
Police swooped on them when they were protesting on the streets near Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Race Course Road residence.
The IAC is demanding the minister's resignation after alleging that an NGO headed by him and run by his wife Louise was involved in financial bungling. Khurshid has denied the charge.
According to an IAC spokesperson, the prime minister refused to meet Kejriwal, who was taken away along with his supporters in buses by police.
"We will remain in jail and we will not come out," thundered Kejriwal from inside a bus.
While Kejriwal was taken to the Bawana police station in northwest Delhi, other protesters were driven to Parliament Street.
Kejriwal, who wanted to meet the prime minister, was accompanied by a group of differently-abled people from the Rashtriya Viklang Party. The prime minister refused to meet Kejriwal, citing prior appointments.
Kejriwal said he wanted to submit a letter to the PM detailing his allegations against Khurshid.
According to Kejriwal, the suspect NGO siphoned off lakhs of rupees that was meant for physically challenged people.
"A police complaint should be filed immediately against Salman Khurshid and his wife. Khurshid should be removed from the cabinet till proven innocent. Both are influential people, they can tamper with evidence and pressure witnesses. They should be arrested," said Kejriwal.
Khurshid is planning to sue Kejriwal over the allegations.
