Mangalore, Oct 11: Chaos prevailed at Padil railway crossing here on the Thursday October 11 after the railway gate remained closed for an hour.
The railway which was supposed to open at 8.10 pm showed no signs of opening even after a long wait. There was no signal from the station.
The restless commuters who were waiting to cross lost their patience and demanded that the gate be opened. When the guard did not respond to their plea, they reportedly assaulted him and even blocked the railway track, stopping a train that came by for a few mins.
Mangalore rural police led by circle inspector Ravish Naik and SI Sudhakar then intervened and brought the situation under control.
Finally, normalcy was restored and by 9.20 pm the track was cleared
Head of railway police team inspector Sanjeev Naik spoke to station master Santhosh, who said that it was not a regular or an everyday occurance. Such delays happen sometimes when there are too many trains waiting to pass, he said.
In reply, Naik asked Santhosh to create public awareness on the issue and urge for people's cooperation, so that such incidents do not recur.
