Berlin, Oct 6 (IANS): Augsburg ensured their first win of the season when they overpowered Werder Bremen 3-1 to open the seventh round of Bundesliga at SGL Arena here.
Augsburg staged a perfect start when Paul Verhaegh's cross was exploited by Tobias Werner with a diving header to find the back of the net with only two minutes on the clock Friday, reports Xinhua.
Subsequently Bremen picked up the pace to level the score at the 19th minute through Kevin de Bruyne whose long ball from 48 metres crossed the goal line untouched.
The home side remained offensive and responded thirteen minutes later when Stephan Hain utilised an assist inside the box to slot home into top left to restore the lead.
Bremen tried to fight back but most of their actions were just wide or Augsburg goalkeeper Mohamed Amsif denied the score.
To make it worse for Bremen, the home side was not done with the scoring as Daniel Baier netted a well placed free-kick into bottom left to seal the match in the 72nd minute.
It is the second consecutive loss for Bremen whereas Augsburg secured their first win of the season.
