Ponda: Police Raid Matka Dens, Arrest 10

Ponda, October 4: Clamping down on the Matka case, Ponda police on Wednesday evening, October 3, raided 10 dens and arrested 10 persons.  

Police have seized Rs 20,500 from the raid.

Mohit Zindal, Paresh Mane, Sameer Naik, Pradeep Saab, Kishan Ambegiri, Ravi Ankad, Mahesh Bhole, Santappa Malur, Bharat Tari and Abdul Salil are among those arrested.

Police have recovered slip books and other material used to run the matka operations.

Police have previously conducted raids in several parts of North Goa and also in the commercial city of Margao in South Goa. Ponda, the city known for its temples was next in line.

No sooner than the police conducted the raid and arrested some of the involved persons, their agents reached the police station with their advocates.

Although Matka operations have been functioning in the open at several public places, including bus stands and educational institutions, no actions were implemented until recently.

The raids were conducted by police inspector Jivba Dallavi with the help of other police staff.

Police inspector Jivba Dallavi and team will be investigating the case further.
