The convention basically focused on creating public awareness on the ill effects of alcohol consumption.
A large number of people gathered near taluk panchayat and marched towards R N Shetty hall. The members of taluk Janajagruti Vedike played a skit on social awareness outside the hall.
The programme began with a prayer song. Sadhashiv Prabhu, assistant commissioner of Kundapur inaugurated the programme by lighting a lamp.
The chief guests offered flowers to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi to mark the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi.
Speaking on the occasion, Sadhashiv Prabhu said, “Janagruthi Vedike came into existence 21 years ago. It has built self-confidence in the hearts of the people of rural area. Many families have been saved from becoming victims of bad habits. SKDRDP and taluk Janagruthi Vedike Kundapur are doing a great job. Many camps have been organized from which many people have benefited. This organization is helping the society and the people in various ways.”
President of the program B Appanna Hegde, chief guests Shree Vivek Vincent Pais, director of Janagruthi Vedike, resource person Dr P V Bhandari, other zonal presidents of Janajagruthi Vedike were present on the dais.Shree Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, popularly known as SKDRDP, is a charitable trust promoted by Dr D Veerendra Heggade. SKDRDP concentrates on the empowerment of rural women by organizing Self-help Groups (SHGs) on the lines of Joint Liability Groups (JLBs) of Bangladesh and provides infrastructure and finance through micro credit for the rural people.
The SKDRDP encompasses all aspects of enriching rural life. It is currently engaged in developmental activities in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Coorg, Shimoga, Chickmagalur, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Tumkur, Belgaum, Mysore, Chamarajnagar, Koppal, Davangere and Chitradurga districts operating in 20,000 villages covering more than 19,92,000 families. SKDRDP is active with its community development programs throughout the state of Karnataka and holds its presence in six coastal towns under the Karnataka urban development and Coastal environment management project.
SKDRDP is registered under the Charitable Trust Act of 1920 in the office of sub-registrar, government of Karnataka, Belthangady Taluk, Dakshina Kannada district in the year 1991.
