Mangalore, Oct 3: Rice and dal was distributed to the poor families by the 48th Valencia Kankanady congress ward committee on Tuesday October 2, in Kudkorigudde, to mark the Gandhi Jayanthi celebration.
The programme was inaugurated by B Janardhan Poojary, former central minister and other dignitaries present on the dais namely J R Lobo, Appilatha, Nagendra Kumar, Jacintha Borommeo, Sudhir Shetty, T K Sudhir, Anil, Mohan Mendon, Hemanth Garodi and others. A floral tribute was also offered to Gandhiji.
Speaking after the inauguration, Poojary lauded the noble work undertaken by the ward under the able leadership of J R Lobo. Congress has brought development in the Kudkorigudde region, he said. He opposed the widow system practiced in the society and urged everyone not to follow such practices and to organize different programmes for the welfare of widows. He also added that woman is Laxmi and it is because of women that the house and society has improved.
Narayana Guruswamy has built more than 100 temples, especially for the backward community. Dr Ambedkar was highly discriminated in the society during his childhood, but both of them made great achievements because of the power which that they had in themselves. In the same way he urged all the children to use the power given by god and come up in life.
J R Lobo, addressing the gathering, spoke on the importance of the day. He said that Gandhiji was highly considerate towards the poor and the down-trodden and considered everyone as children of god. “We should get rid of violence, casteism and communalism and walk through the paths shown by Gandhiji,” he said.
“Gandhiji opposed corruption and we too should join hands to fight against corruption and follow the footsteps of Gandhiji. In this way we can give our true tribute to him”, Lobo added.
A total of 250 families were given 5 Kg rice and 1 Kg dal each. The programme was compered by congress leader, Dennis D’Silva.
Krithin Raj, Keshava Kankanady, Chandrashekar, Nazir Bajal among many other leaders were present.
