Riyadh Sep.29: The semi-final round of the Gulf Voice of Mangalore Season 3 proved every bit to be an entertaining as well as a nail-biting contest, at the end of which Roshan Philip Rodrigues Madantyar (Chint tam sadan) and Shallet D’Silva Bendur (Dees they burgyaponale) were declared the Voice of Arabia.
The GVOM 2012 semi-finals was organised by Aangann Konknechem Riyadh on Thursday, September 27. The winners will now put their skills to test at the grand finale to be held on October 19 in Doha-Qatar.
Edwin Gabriel Pinto from Balehonnur, Manuel Kishor Master from Kolkata, and Frankline D’Costa from Goa judged the competition.
Edwin Gabriel Pinto, hailing from Chikmagalur and has been in the Kingdom since 1992 and is working for Saipem Group of Companies (Italian Govt Co) as general affairs and organization coordinator. Since childhood he has been in the field of music, and conducted large choir’s music shows in India. He has composed songs for schools and social organizations. He has also brought out a devotional album “Rachlein Bapa” and has been judge for schools and social organizations and a music teacher for almost 13 years.
Frankline D’Costa is a senior systems analyst working for Ejada Solutions and presently, a banking software consultant for Riyadh Bank. He has been in Riyadh for the last 13 years. His interests include music, finance and movies. He has done his formal musical education from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music, London.
Manuel Kishor Master from Kolkata, West Bengal is working with Alfaisal University, Riyadh as financial reporting officer. He is a a lead and rhythm guitarist from hard Rock to gospel songs, eastern and western music, and has participated in many concerts with Yesudas, Jagadishan, Nadarsha and many artists from South India and Pakistan since 1997. He has also composed gospel songs in English, Hindi and Bengali.
The programme was compered by Dony Correa from Dubai, who added much charm to the event with his dashing, enigmatic style, and announced the opening of GVOM 2012 semi-final. He made a grand entry to the beat of music, accompanied by a thunderous applause from the crowd.
The programme began with a prayer by Ivan Vaz Omzoor followed by a welcome dance by Princy Pinto and Kavi Roza, and welcome speech by the AKR president Arun D’souza.
The main sponsor Anil Flossy Albuquerque, co sponsors Kevin Meurel Nazareth, Clarance Fernandes and AKR president Arun D’Souza lighted the lamp and inaugurated the competition.
The four female contestants Shallet D’Silva Bendur, Nirmala Saldanha Shankarpura, Nathalia Lewis Sastan and Princy Pinto Bangalore, along with six male contestants Manoj Mascarenhas Urwa, Roshan Philip Rodrigues Madantyar, Roshan D’Souza Valencia, Dolphy Veigas Bendur, Gerald Rodrigues Kaikamba Kavdoor, Ambrose Corderio Venur were introduced and escorted to the stage by the entire Aangann team.
Royston Prabhu Bejai felicitated all the sponsors. The contestants were felicitated with mementos by the president of Aangann Konknechem Riyadh.
The competition began with the curtain-raiser song “Gulf Voice of Mangalore”. Little children Caron (Nanna) D’Souza Mudarangadi, Sharon and Shalome Fernandes Shirthadi, showcased their dancing talents. More colour was added with item dance number by youngsters from Brothers group. Spot games were conducted by Ronald Fernandes, Shirthady from Dammam.
Dony Correa duo entertained the audience with rib-tickling humor which had everyone laughing away to glory and kept the atmosphere lively with melodies Konkani numbers that had the crowd literally on their feet. Delicious food was served.
The programme came to an end with the announcement of the winners. While every person in the auditorium waited with bated breath for the results, the announcement itself was splendid, not just because of the deafening applause that followed it, but also because of the expression of triumph as well as intense emotion that it brought upon the face of the winners.
Roshan Lobo, secretary of Aangann Konknechem proposed the vote of thanks.

Bahrain, Sep 23: It was Tina D souza who walked away with award for the female category for her scintillating performance with the song ‘Ahimsa’ composed my Melvyn Peris.
