Economic Reforms Not a One-off Process: PM


New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Saturday that economic reforms were not a one-off but a continuous process and were not dictated by "other countries".

Speaking to reporters after the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Altmas Kabir as the Chief Justice of India at the Rashtrapti Bhawan, the prime minister said: "Reform is not a one for all process."

On being asked whether the UPA allies were demanding a roll-back of the recent economic steps announced by the government, Manmohan Singh said: "We will do what is good for the country."

Replying to the allegation that the latest dose of economic reforms was dictated by the US, the prime minister said: "We are not the country to be dictated by other countries."

Replying to a question on the Supreme Court's opinion that auction was not the sole method of allocating natural resources, Manmohan Singh said: "We will honour

and respect the judgement. We welcome it."

On the Kelkar committee report on fiscal reforms, the prime minister said that it has been put on the website.

On the other contentious issues, Manmohan Singh said, "We are far away from election. We can discuss anything."

The prime minister said that he was not bitter about anything.
