New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS): Six armed men drove away with a van carrying Rs.5.50 crore of ICICI Bank after critically injuring the guard in Defence Colony in south Delhi Friday, police said.
Police said the men came in a Hyundai Verna car and intercepted the van carrying the bank's cash to an ATM.
The heist took place around 1.20 p.m. The attackers left their car behind.
The guard, Munna Singh, 40, was rushed to a hospital where his condition was said to be critical.
A police officer said the robbery took place when the guard, driver Anil Singh and two others, Ashok and Ajab Singh, were going to Lajpat Nagar from Hauz Khas via Defence Colony.
The attackers' vehicle had blocked the road, which resulted in a traffic jam. Four men jumped out and one of them shot the guard.
Police said there were six to seven men, around 30 years of age.
According to police, the cash belonged to ICICI Bank, which was being taken to be put in ATMs at Lajpat nagar.
According to an official of the bank, the van belongs to Premier Shield Pvt. Ltd.
