13 Die in China Coal Mine Accident


Beijing, Sep 25 (IANS): Thirteen miners were killed and seven trapped Tuesday in an accident at a coal mine in China's Gansu province, said authorities.

A locomotive with 34 workers onboard its two carriages overturned when a steel wire snapped at the colliery pit in the city of Baiyin, reported Xinhua.

A total of 27 workers at the Qusheng Coal Mining Co. were taken out of the pit. Thirteen of them were dead.

The coal mine, which began operation in 2003, has a designed annual production capacity of 90,000 tonnes.
