New Delhi, Sep 24 (IANS): Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav expressed his opposition to foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail and hike in diesel prices but was still willing to support the government, BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain noted here Sunday.

Referring to Mulayam Yadav's son, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's remarks that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had much explaining to do on matters concerning the economy, Hussain told media persons here the Samajwadi Party has not budged from making opportunistic remarks.

"Its (SP's) statements keep changing," Hussain said.

Referring to Mulayam Singh's remarks about continued support to the government to keep the communal forces out, Hussain said if "communal incidents were visible anywhere, it was in Uttar Pradesh and Assam".

The BJP leader said the SP had used the word "communalism" to derive political gains. "There is intrinsic link between communalism and Samajwadi Party...when SP comes to power (in Uttar Pradesh), riots start."

Communal incidents had taken place in six districts in the nearly six months rule of Akhilesh Yadav government, he said.

Hussain also charged the Samajwadi Party with bailing out the central government, when the entire country was against it.

He said the SP had earlier rescued the government against the opposition-sponsored cut motion on price rise and had backed the Congress stance in deliberations of public accounts committee and the joint parliamentary committee of the 2G spectrum allocation.
