Dubai Sep 23 : One of the premier and the oldest association in Dubai, Karnataka Sangha Dubai, hosted Open to all UAE Kannadigas Dance Competition on 21st September 2012 at Westminster School, Dubai started at 4.30pm. Karnataka Sangha Dubai is on the forefront in organizing many cultural and social events and has contributed to the charity causes immensely for the last 27 years here in UAE and as well back home in Karnataka.
Karnataka Sangha, Dubai is conducting Dance competition to bring out the dancing talents of UAE kannadigas. This unique dance competition called PURAVNKARA Dance Cup 2012. The title sponsor for the event is Puravankara Projects, Bangalore. The winners will be entitled to participate in the grand Rajyostava Celebrations planned in November 9 2012.
Dance groups from different community and dance institutes took part in this highly competitive event in four categories for the age group of below 15 years, above 15 years of age, Folk Dance and Professional dance groups. Past entertainment secretary Manohar Hegde took initiative and led the event from the front.
Prior to competition, President Girish Shetty and Vice President K.R. Tantry welcomed the fully packed audience, participants of both drawing and dance competition and thanked them for their over-whelming support by participation. This followed by lighting of traditional lamp led by Mr Nagesh Udupi, AGM of Puravankara, Guest Mr. Shekar Shetty of Arab Udupi Restaurant group Girish Shetty (President) Daya Kirodian (General Secretary ) and committee members. Students of Mrs Laxmi Sooryakumar performed vibrant and colorful Bharathnatyam Welcome dance.
The four special judges for the day were highly knowledgeable in the field of dance and were involved in many cultural events and had themselves won many competitions. They were: Hitesh Rajani and Vikyath Poojary, winners of “Jalak Dikhlaja UAE” who set the stage on fire upon their introduction, with power packed dance performance, Ms Shama Rani Shenoy a Bharathanatyam instructor and choreographer in Dubai and Sri Vidya Phd in Dance They had tough task to select the winners as all the participants were equally good and danced superbly.
When the little tiny tots took to the stage, it was pure magic to watch with vivid costumes they looked adorable and performed beautiful dances to the appreciation of their parents, trainers and audience at large. The little angles showed what talent they have and proved to be future dancers. It was a treat to watch these tiny tots smiling and dancing.
Emcees Shashidhar Nagarajappa and Shilpa Sudhaker conducted the show in their signature style and kept the audience in good humor with their kannada vocabulary. Shilpa Sudhaker was honored with a memento.
Meanwhile from 3.00 PM onwards the drawing competition was organized and there were 3 categories. Below 5 years – coloring, 5 – 8 years – coloring and 8 – 15 years drawing and coloring for the theme of TOURIST PLACE/SPOT OF KARNATAKA. Large numbers of entries for all categories was registered, and the judges were B. K. Ganesh Rai, Kavita Krishnamoorthy from Abu Dhabi and Sheela Krishnamoorthy from Dubai. All the three are excellent in their field of Arts.
Humorous skit was presented by “Gammath Kalavidaru” led by Rajesh Kuttar, made audience to laugh and two of such skits were performed by the team.
The chief guest of the day was Ms. Lina Benedict, GM Middle East Operation from Puravankara and was honored with memento and gift hamper. Nagesh Udupi AGM and Ms. Usha Varanasi were on the dais. Ms Usha Varanasi gave brief introduction of the company and announced launch of a new project at Mangalore soon. Nagesh Udupi further briefed about the Puravankara projects and offered prelaunch benefits in their new project to the entire coastal kannadigas.
President Girish Shetty was very happy to see large number of Kannadigas to watch this very special event. He thanked all the participants and audience for attending the show. He specially thanked Lina Benedict of PURUVANKARA Projects Ltd. from Bangalore and Shivanand Hebbar of Sapil Group for being the Title sponsor and co-sponsor of the event respectively. Prior to declaring winners, he thanked for the support of all the sponsors and media for excellent media coverage by respective media persons and they were honored with mementos and gift hampers.
Finally the much awaited results were read out by Vice President K R Tantry.

Each group was presented with certificates and individual cups by the committee and subcommittee members and a group trophy presented by Ms. Lina Benedict, Mr Nagesh Udupi and Usha Varanasi of Puruvankara.
Treasurer Jayanth Shetty and Executive committee members Chandrashekar Manohar Hegde, Peer Mohammed, Lawrence, Arun, Shashidar,Ram Prasad, Satish Venkatraman, Harish Kodi, Satish Shetty and Susan Gowda and sub committee members equally contributed for the success of this event.
The colorful back drop of the stage was set by Satish Shetty of Sai Vision The event came to close at about 8pm with a vote of thanks by Daya Kirodian.
