Mangalore: Illicit Relationship Led to Murder of Beltangady Woman: Police

Mangalore, Sep 17: A case of unnatural death which was registered in the Venur police station recently has now proved to be a murder.
Kumari Savitha (28) daughter of K Narayan Poojari was found dead in a well near her house in Urudelu of Andinje village in Beltangady taluk between September 6 and September 7.
It was suspected that Umesh Poojari, husband of Sharada who is the second daughter of the complainant had an affair with Savitha, the younger sister of Sharada.
The team led by SP Abhishek Goyal, under the guidance of Puttur ASP M N Anucheth, Beltangady circle inspector N G Bhasker Rai, PSI Umesh Uppalike arrested the accused Umesh Poojari (37) on September 16.
During the interrogation, the police sensed that Umesh was not telling the truth on the basis of his body language, and upon continous police interrogation he finally admitted that he pushed Savitha into the well after coaxing her out of her house on September 6 in the night.
Umesh revealed that before getting married to Sharada, her sister Savitha was pleading him to marry her and that he had sexual relationship with her.
After Umesh got married to Sharada, Savitha started forcing Umesh to leave her sister and marry her instead. Angered by this Umesh called Savitha and pushed her into the well.
SP Abhishek Goyal addressing the reporters on Monday September 17 at his office stated that Rs 1,40,000 worth jewellery was robbed by Umesh from Savitha. All the stolen items together with Rs 30,000 in cash and a mobile phone have been recovered.
