Srinagar, Sep 17 (IANS): In yet another example of society's callousness to infant girls, authorities at G.B. Pant Hospital here Monday discovered an infant abandoned in the hospital's corridor.
Speaking to reporters, Muneer Masood, superintendent of G.B. Pant Hospital, said: "The security staff discovered the five-day-old baby, wrapped in a blanket. She was shifted to the neo-natal intensive care unit. We have arranged clothes for the newborn."
A doctor said the baby had a cleft lip and a cleft palate, a congenital deformity that could be corrected surgically.
The discovery of the abandoned baby was reported to local police.
"Normally, such children are put up for adoption, which involves a legal procedure," the superintendent said.
This is the fourth time this year that an abandoned baby girl has been found at this hospital.
