Bantwal: Village Accountant, Assistant Caught Red-handed Accepting Bribe

Bantwal, Sep 15: Mangalore Lokayukta team led by SI Mohandas on Saturday September 15 caught Manila village accountant and his assistant red-handed while collecting bribe from a person for transferring the account of a plot which is under judical enquiry.
The arrested employees are Manila village accountant Ram Bhat (59), a resident of Mittanadka, Karopadi and assistant Krishna Naik (37), a resident of Kollatadka, Peruvai.

The Lokayukta team conducted the raid based on a complaint by Srinivas Poojary, a resident of Batyadka, Manila village.
Srinivas Poojary had purchased a plot from Shivaram Bhat on January 21, 2008. The land was registered by Vittal sub-registrar as per regulations.
However, as per court notice, the auction of the said land was stayed. Srinivas Poojary then informed the village accountant Ram Bhat on the stay notice. While the stay notice was issued on September 11, assistant Krishna Naik refused to issue the confirmation letter.
When enquired, Krishna Naik asked him to pay Rs 5,000 to speak to the village accountant and stop the transfer. Having paid an advance of Rs 500, Srinivas Poojary then complained to the Lokayukta with proof of the conversation recorded in his mobile phone.
Having received the complaint, the SI arrested the culprits red-handed while receiving Rs 4,500 from Poojary on Saturday.
Lokayuktha DySP Vittaldas Pai, Lokayukta inspectors Umesh Shet, Dileep Kumar and others were part of the operation.
