Abu Dhabi, Sep 15 : Hrudayavahini Balaga led by Manjunath Sagar, in association with Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi led by Sarvothama Shetty will jointly organize the 9th World Kannada Cultural Convention in Abu Dhabi on December 14 and 15 this year.
A press note from Hrudayavahini stated that several seminars and workshops related to Kannada literature will be held to mark the event. The event will feature Bharathanatyam, folk dances, Yakshagana and other performances.
Karnataka CM Jagadish Shettar, ministers Govind Karjol, K S Eshwarappa and C T Ravi are expected to be present during the event along with more than 100 delegates from around the world.
Among the past eight world conventions, Abu Dhabi hosted the one in 2004, while Singapore, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Dubai hosted the others.
"A Kannada book exhibition and exhibition of products from the business community will also be included in this event. As around 20,000 Kannadigas reside in and around Abu Dhabi, the event is expected to witness a huge turnout, " says the press note.
The working committee includes Padmashree Dr B R Shetty (patron), Sarvotham Shetty (president), Siraj Ahmed (vice-president), Manohar Tonse (secretary), and Yogish Prabhu (treasurer).

Abu Dhabi : Karnataka Rajyostava on Nov 2
Prior to the World Convention, Karnataka Rajyostava celebration will be held in Abu Dhabi on November 2, at the India Social and Cultural Centre from 10.30 am to 6 pm.
K Lokesh, Indian Ambassador to UAE will be the chief guest, and the programme will be presided over by Dr B R Shetty.
As part of the entertainment, humourous ventriloquist and magician Indushree from Bangalore will regale the audience, while Manjula (mother of Indushree) will render soulful 'Bhavageetha' and 'Sugama Sangeetha'.
The event will also comprise UAE-level folk dance competition, say the organizers.
The rules and regulations for the folk dance contest are:
(a) The dance shall be based on Kannada folk songs only.
(b) If the particular folk song has been used in any of the movies, then the dance shall be based on the original tune and theme.
(c) The duration shall be between 5 to 7 minutes.
(d) Each team shall have both male and female participants (children allowed).
(e) Each time shall have a minimum of 8 participants.
(f) Participants shall not take part in more than one team.
(g) The winning teams (1st, 2nd and 3rd) will be rewarded with trophies and cash prizes.
(h) There will be 3 prizes for the choreographers (1st, 2nd and 3rd)
(i) The registration will close on October 15, 2012.
(j) Fire and water shall not be used during the dance.
(k) Preparation prior to the start of the dance shall not take more than five minutes .
(l) The stage shall be cleared immediately after the dance.
