Kasargod: Major Theft - Gold Worth Rs 16.5 Lac Looted from House

Kasargod, Sep 14: Thieves broke into a house near Melparamba on the intervening night of Thursday September 13 and Friday September 14 and looted cash and gold worth Rs 16.5 lac.
The house belongs to Haneef Maravayal and the incident came to light on Friday morning.
The theft is said to have occurred after the family retired for the night. Sources said that the theft might be an insider's job as it was carried out by administering sedatives to the family members.
It is learnt that the house was newly built and the house warming ceremony was held on September 13. The thieves entered the house by breaking open the kitchen door after which they took away gold and from the cupboard.
The thieves decamped with seven gold bangles weighing 25 sovereign, 1 chain weighing 30 sovereign and other ornaments, together with Rs 10,000 in cash. The total worth of the stolen valuables including cash is estimated at Rs 16.5 lac.
Police team led by sub-inspector K Bijulal along with forensic experts and sniffer dogs carried out the investigation.
A case has been registered in the city police station.
