Moscow, Sep 11 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Russia will soon have a special police unit to take care of the growing menace of car thefts in Moscow.
A special working group to deal with car thefts will be established in the Russian Interior Ministry's main department for Moscow, according to the department's head, Police Major General Anatoly Yakunin.
"Forty cars were stolen in the city yesterday. It's like this almost every day," Yakunin told the Rossiya 24 TV channel Monday.
He said cars worth a total of 3.2 billion rubles (about $100 million) were stolen in the Russian capital in the first half of the year.
Moscow accounts for nearly 50 percent of all cars stolen in the Central Federal District.
"The working group will deal exclusively with that problem," Yakunin said.
