Panaji, Sep 10 (IANS): Three Russians have been saved from drowning at the Colva beach, 40 km from here, officials of a private lifeguard agency said Monday.
A spokesperson for the lifeguard agency, Drishti Response Services, said that Ivan Ligotchiv, 66, Sergey Shostalov, 45, and Alexey Shukaylo, 47, all hailing from Moscow, had been swimming in the sea off Colva beach.
"Due to presence of a strong rip current our lifeguard warned them not to swim in that location, but they paid no heed to the warning and continued swimming," the spokesperson said.
"We suddenly noticed one of the group members drifting seaward as he was caught in the current and gestured for help. The lifeguard secured the victim with a jetski. The other two also drifted and shouted for help. They too were saved using a rescue tube," the spokesperson said.
The Goa government has already banned swimming along the coastline because of the choppy waters during the monsoon season.
