Udupi: CCTV to Monitor Students Around Manipal - IGP Reddy

Udupi, Sep 4: In the wake of increasing number of undesirable activities, specially drug consumption, drug peddling, alcohol consumption in public places, thefts of laptops, mobiles, and two-wheelers, reckless driving, and dancing in hotels after consuming alchohol etc around Manipal vicinity where educational institutions are based, Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy has proposed to install CCTV cameras to monitor such activities.
Addressing a joint emergency meeting called by Udupi police and Manipal university, he said that reckless driving at night has led to several deaths, and many indisciplinary activities by students are being reported. "Steps have already been taken to monitor and control such activities by the Udupi police under the leadership of district SP Dr Boralingaiah, but CCTV monitoring could be a big help," he said.
"Strict action has been taken on those trying to sell drugs around Udupi, and already a couple of people have been arrested," he said.
Manipal University vice-chancellor Ramadas Pai, Dr H S Ballal, V K Prabhu, hostel wardens of Manipal and Mangalore, Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala police heads and others were present during the meeting.
