Mangalore: Family in Distress After Rains Snatch Away Shelter

Mangalore, Sep 2: In a heart-rendering incident reported on Sunday September 2 morning, house belonging to Padil resident Lingappa Achary collapsed, plunging the family into distress. The total loss is yet to be estimated.
It is learnt that at around 9.15 am, Geetha Achary, wife of Lingappa Achary was preparing food in the kitchen of their house located in Veeranagar in Padil, when the roof and the wall collapsed all of a sudden.
Luckily Geetha escaped unhurt. Linagappa Achary had gone out to buy groceries from a shop.
The house was built about 40 years ago and due to incessant rains, the wall was damaged.
Lingappa Achary is a carpenter. The incident has left the couple shelterless and distressed. Geetha Achary has temporarily moved to her mother’s house near Padil. The couple's son Sudarshan (24) is mentally ill and had to stop working a few years ago, thus pushing the family into deeper dilemma.
Geetha rolls bidis and supports her husband with her small earnings. Geetha being also a member of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala self-help groups, some help is anticipated.
Corporator Sudhir Kannur visited their house. However, efforts to contact him later went in vain.
