Bangalore, Aug 31 (IBNS) True to his words, New Zealand captain Ross Taylor hit a magnificent century that took the Kiwis to 328 for six in the first innings against India before bad light brought a premature end to the first day's play of the second Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here Friday.
Taylor’s 127-ball knock (16x4, 2x6) put the visitors in command after he opted to bat first.
Opener Martin Guptill (53) helped New Zealand recover from a poor start tart while South Africa-born Kruger van Wyk (63 not out ) waged a battle as the stumps were drawn due to bad light with 8.3 overs still left.
India looked to be on top after they reduced the Kiwi top order to 89 for three in the pre-lunch session.
But from then on, the Indian bowlers had to toil hard as the Kiwi middle-order batted well.
Left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha, who opened the bowling, picked up four wickets while off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and seamer Zaheer Khan took one apiece. The fourth bowler, Umesh Yadav was rather erratic and leaked 71 runs in his 12.3 overs.
Taylor, who on the eve of the match promised that a big one was not far away, led from the front by spanking the Indian bowlers to all parts of the ground.
Daniel Flynn (33) holding one end while Taylor unleashed a barrage of shots.
