Mangalore, Aug 30: The initiation ceremony of the community hall for the Mogera Union, Mangalore was held at the SDM College Hall here on Wednesday August 29.
Minister for social welfare and prison A Narayanaswamy inaugurating the programme said that the young generation of the Mogera (Scheduled Caste) community should come ahead in the field of education and thereby enjoy the essence of life. He noted that among 152 sub castes in Mogera Community many children were missed out on receiving .
As the budget last year set aside Rs 35 cr grant, this year it was raised to Rs 75 cr for the benefit of people of scheduled castes. He stated that Rs 140 cr balance which has been pending for the last 10 years needs to be allocated for reimbursement of scholarship money for the students needs to be done. The people belonging to the scheduled castes may be economically poor, but no caste is a lower than another, he said.
He said that he is ready to release money for the education institutions, if the leaders of the community come ahead with a proposal. He also asserted that selfish people should not be welcomed to join the union.
The community hall will be built at Panjimogeru, Padukodi Village at the estimated cost of Rs 2 Cr, out of which Rs 1 cr has already been released by the government.
Sullia MLA S Angara presided over the programme. Mayor Gulzar Banu, Deputy Mayor Amithakala, MLC Monappa Bhandary, R Shantha, taxation, finance and appeals standing committee of Mangalore City Corporation among others were present.
