Mumbai: Konkani Manyata Divas Celebrated at Mira Road by St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association

Mumbai, Aug 27: Konkani Manyatha Divas was celebrated with grandeur by St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road on Sunday, August 26 at the Community Hall of St Joseph’s Church. Programme began with a welcome dance. Fr Dominic Vas (Spiritual Director of the association and Parish Priest of St Joseph’s Church), Fr Ivan (assistant parish priest), Kenny Zuzarte (singer), Harryboy (singer), Lawrence Coelho (editor of Divo) lighted the lamp.
Konkani singer and actor, Kenny Zuzarte was felicitated on the occasion. Fr Ivan D’Souza, winner of Divo Puraskar was also felicitated for his contribution to the Konkani literature.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Dominic Vas stressed that Konkani culture should be inculcated in our life, in our home and society.
Ancy Paladka was the resource person of the day. He explained the prominence of Konkani Divas. He said Konkani is the second oldest language of India, older than Sanskrit and Marathi. He spoke on why the Konkani language is slowly extinguishing. There was a live discussion on the subject.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of elocution and singing competition conducted for this occasion.
Members of the association and the winners of the singing competition entertained the crowd with jokes, skits and songs. Crowd danced to the songs of Kenny Zuzarte.
