Two Killed in Nigeria Bank Attack

Abuja, Aug 26 (IANS): At least two people were killed when militants suspected to be from the Boko Haram outfit attacked a bank in Nigeria, police said.

The militants attacked an agriculture development bank in Gashua town in Bade Council area of Yobe state, Xinhua reported.

State commissioner of police Patrick Egbuniwe said one policeman and a militant were the two killed in the attack.

The official name of the Boko Haram outfit is Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad, which in Arabic means "People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet's Teachings and Jihad".

But residents of Maiduguri, where it was formed in 2002, dubbed it Boko Haram. Loosely translated from the local Hausa language, this means "Western education is forbidden".
