Moscow, Aug 24 (IANS/RIA Novosti): A drug haul of over 200 kg heroin, having an estimated market value of about $2 million, has been seized in Moscow region, said a drug control official Thursday.
Federal drug control agents detained three men, all Tajik nationals, with 97 plastic bottles each with 1.25 kg of the drug and two 0.7-kg bottles, said agency regional chief Major General Vasily Yurchenko.
The bottles were thrown from a moving train on the Dushanbe-Moscow line.
"It is the largest drug haul seized in Russia in the past two or three years," Yurchenko said, adding that the heroin would have been diluted to produce about 10 million doses.
The drug dealers face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office said Thursday another three men will go on trial for attempting to sell about 200 kg of hashish last year.
They are also looking at up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.
