Mangalore: Unidentified Man Falls into Drain at Pumpwell, Dies

Mangalore, Aug 21: A man, aged around 65, died after falling into a drain at Pumpwell here late on Tuesday August 21 evening.
The man, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was sitting on a parapet above a drain near Pumpwell bus stop. All of a sudden, he lost balance and fell.
Another man who was standing nearby tried to catch him, but in vain.
The elderly man fell into the drain which contained water. He sustained injuries on the head and died on the spot.
The man might have been unwell and might have fainted, or he might have been drowsy, said an eyewitness. "Nevertheless, the incident has brought to light the danger posed by the uncovered drain," he added.
The body was stuck inside and was retrieved with the help of the fire personnel.
The incident aroused the curiosity of passersby and a large number of people gathered at the spot. They were chased by the police.
The body was later shifted to Wenlock.
