Kundapur, Aug 21: The Konkani Manyata Day was celebrated with grandeur by the Konkani community, apart from cast, creed and religion at Blessed Joseph Vaz hall, Gangolli.
Fr A D’Lima, parish priest of Immaculate Conception Church, presided over the program. Vedavryasa Acharya, purohith, and Sr Lucy Mary, superior, Carmel Convent were the chief guests for the celebration.
Vinod Gangolli, director of Blessed Joseph Vaz centre, in his keynote address briefed about the rich heritage of Konkani language, literature and its culture.
Vedavyasa Acharya spoke about the influence of westernization and the factors which affect the proximity towards Konkani mother tongue. He called upon everyone to cherish and love our mother tongue Konkani, as we love our own mother.
Fr A D’Lima thanked everyone for participating in the event and hoped that Konkani becomes a platform for communal harmony and an inspiration to establish the bond of peace and love in the society.
Divakar Kharvi, a well known blood donor, Panduranga Madival, popular Yakshagana and theatre artist and John Lobo, a well known social worker were honoured for their valuable and selfless services to the society.
The programme was organized by Blessed Joseph Vaz centre, Gangolli.
