Kundapur: Hindus, Muslims and Christians Gather to Celebrate Konkani Manyata Day

Kundapur, Aug 21: The Konkani Manyata Day was celebrated with grandeur by the Konkani community, apart from cast, creed and religion at Blessed Joseph Vaz hall, Gangolli. 

Fr A D’Lima, parish priest of Immaculate Conception Church, presided over the program. Vedavryasa Acharya, purohith, and Sr Lucy Mary, superior, Carmel Convent were the chief guests for the celebration.

Vinod Gangolli, director of Blessed Joseph Vaz centre, in his keynote address briefed about the rich heritage of Konkani language, literature and its culture.

Vedavyasa Acharya spoke about the influence of westernization and the factors which affect the proximity towards   Konkani mother tongue.  He called upon everyone to cherish and love our mother tongue Konkani, as we love our own mother.

Fr A D’Lima thanked everyone for participating in the event and hoped that Konkani becomes a platform for communal harmony and an inspiration to establish the bond of peace and love in the society.

Divakar Kharvi, a well known blood donor, Panduranga Madival, popular Yakshagana and theatre artist and John Lobo, a well known social worker were honoured for their valuable and selfless services to the society.

The programme was organized by Blessed Joseph Vaz centre, Gangolli.

Preethi Fernandes welcomed and Vinod Gangolli compered the programme.

    It is great. When I read the heading that Hindu, Christian, Muslim gathered to celebrate Konkani Mnyata Divas, I thought, atleast few thousand audience must be there. when I saw the photos, only 50 people. this, what our people give importance to our konkani language. I thank and appreciate the organisers to remember this day. I am sure, even 50% of the local konkani people would have attended, it would be nealy thousand. but it is unfortunate to know their ignorance. I have experienced this in my own backyard at mumbai, when we celebrate Konkani Manyata Divas and inspite of wide publicity and variety programs, hardly people come for such events. we must try to involve all people to celebrate this day. All the best.

    "Konkani is the only Language that keeps the people united irrespective of the cast, creed and relgion.This language will bring peace in the coastal region rather than break it into pieces. Long live the Konkani language and the culture.
