Mangalore: Foundation Stone Laid for Alangar Parish's New Presbytery

Mangalore, Aug 21: Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore, laid the foundation stone for the new presbytery of Alangar Parish.
Abhaya Chandra, MLA, Fr Basil Vas, the parish priest, Fr Austin Peres the Vicar, and guest priests were present.
In his homily, Bishop preached on family values. “In this modern society people are losing the meaning of family life and togetherness. Family is the basic security of a man. If family foundation is shaken there is no other way one can live as a normal human person. Our real test is how we live in society when we have good family values, good education, good name and fame, and wealth” he said.
"In a family, elders should imbibe spiritual faith and then pass it on to their children while giving them good guidance," the Bishop added.
The novenas to Infant Jesus were held at the pilgrimage centre on every Friday, three times, 8 am, 11 am, 4 pm and confessions at 10 am.
More than thousand devotees gathered for the holy mass at mid day followed by meals which was arranged for all devotees as well as school children.
New Toilet Block
New Toilet Block for St Thomas Educational Institutions was constructed with a cost of Rs 6 lakh.
Ronald Colaco has donated Rs 3 lakh for this project. Abhaya Chandra Jain MLA, inaugurated this block. The School band escorted the chief guest to the site. Headmaster of the High school Fr Edwin Pinto welcomed the guests. Correspondent Fr Basil Vas thanked all.
Sr Mary Ivy, the Head mistress of Kannada medium gave the mementos to the guests. PK Thomas, the constructor, Jerald Lobo, the vice president of the parish and the members of the Management Committee, Staff and students were present.
Inauguration of the house
The post centenary jubilee programme of the Diocese selected one beneficiary from the parish to offer a jubilee house, namely Ivan D’Souza from Lourdes ward. His Lordship Bishop of Mangalore blessed the house in spite of heavy showers.
