Mangalore, Aug 19: As part of ‘Aarehole Sahitya Sourabha’, Aarehole Prathistana in association with Mangalore Taluk Chutuku Sahitya Parishad, 3K (Kannada, Kavitha, Kavana) and Lion’s Club, Mangalore organized a half-day convention for budding online writers at Lion’s Seva Mandir here on August 19.
After inaugurating the programme, Walter Nandalike, editor in-chief, Daijiworld said, “The online write-ups can reach every corner of the world with utmost speed, but there is hardly any control over the content. Although online journalism is gaining huge amount of popularity, compared to print media, quality of online blogs still has a long way to go.”
He also added that in the European and American countries people look out for news on the web more often than from newspapers.
Addressing the budding writers, he cautioned that the chances of errors are more in news portals and television while publishing breaking news as compared to print media. He, however, added that a big advantage in the former is that a mistake can be corrected immediately. On the other hand, the print media has time to verify before publishing the news.
Advising the students, Walter said “Thorough research, fact finding and carefulness are important as these elements can decide where the publication stands”.
Lauding the management for organizing a session on online journalism, he said, “It has been one of my favourite programmes of the season, as it is closely related to my hobby and profession.” Extending complete support, he advised to start a registered forum for online writers in Mangalore.
Educating the students on how to make a blog, resource person Muruleedhar Upadhyaya Iriyadka encouraged the budding writers to publish their literary works on the internet. Manjunath Kollegala and Rupa Sathish also spoke on the occasion.
Some of the aspiring poets presented poetry, and art works of city-based painters were also exhibited on the occasion.
