Kundapur, Aug 12: Torrential rains over the past three or four days have upset the lives of people in the taluk. Fields, houses, roads and even schools are inundated in knee-deep water, and communication and transport have been badly hit.
In Tekkatte Malyadi, farmer Basava Poojary's house was submerged in floods. As agriculture is his only means of livelihood, the deluge has plunged him and his family in despair. Same is the case with many other farmers whose fields and houses have been ruined.
In Beejady, the government high school was water-logged, and students had to manually clear out the water with utensils. Most of the schools in the district remained shut.
Uday Mogaveera of Nilavara Mane is also facing difficulties, with his house surround by water on all sides. There is no outlet for the water to drain out. Though he informed the gram panchayat and urged the panchayat president to help, no action has been taken so far.
