Rio de Janeiro, Aug 11 (IANS): Uruguay midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro is set to make his debut for Brazilian Serie A outfit Botafogo against Portuguesa Sunday.
The 23-year-old began training with the club earlier in the week after agreeing to a four-year deal in July while in London with Uruguay's Olympic team, reports Xinhua.
Botafogo coach Oswaldo de Oliveira said he was eager to select Lodeiro before the playmaker's likely call up to Uruguay's senior national squad next week.
"Every time I see Lodeiro in training, I am more convinced that he is ready to play," Oliveira said Friday.
"We're going to use him against Portuguesa and then let him go to play with Uruguay. It's a pity."
Lodeiro, who spent the past two seasons at Dutch club Ajax, was a member of Uruguay's 2010 World Cup team which made the semi-finals in South Africa.
