Rio de Janeiro, Aug 11 (IANS): London Olympic beach volleyball silver medallist Emanuel Rego has refused to rule out extending his career to the age of 43 at the Rio 2016 Games.
Brazil's Rego and Alison Cerotic, the current world champions, were defeated 1-2 by Germany's Julius Brink and Jonas Beckerman in Thursday's final, reports Xinhua.
"It's still too early to think about 2016 but I can guarantee that I will play until 2013," Rego said upon his arrival at Rio's international airport Friday.
"I am very hard on myself and if I get to the stage where I don't feel I am competitive anymore I will take the decision to stop before somebody else does."
Rego has been in five Olympics since the Atlanta 1996 Games, when beach volleyball was included as a medal event for the first time.
His silver in London follows bronze and gold medals at the 2008 Beijing and 2004 Atlanta Games, respectively, alongside Ricardo Santos.
