Udupi: Water, Water Everywhere, so Schools to Remain Shut

Udupi, Aug 11: Schools across the district will remain closed on Saturday August 11, in the wake of the heavy and incessant rains that have been lashing the district over the last three days.
Several low lying areas in the district have been inundated due to the torrential rains.
In places like Uppoor Jaathabettu, Uggelbettu, Heroor, Aroor Belmaru, Kattinabuda, Baavalikudru, Haavanje, Bennekudru, Kalavina Baagilu, rain disrupted normal life.
Several boats were kept ready in Uppoor for safety measure as it was flooded. In Heroor, hanging bridge was washed away due to heavy rains and as many as seven boats were kept ready to deal with the flood.
Four families in Havanje were shifted to a safer place. A coconut tree fell on a house belonging to Kamala Kanchan in Yenagudde resulting in loss of Rs 50,000. The flooding reached to such an extent that many of the houses had to be deserted due to overflowing water.
Karkala too witnessed heavy rains over the last couple of days and schools remained shut.
The people residing along rivulets in Udyavar, Matadakudru, Katpady, Manipur, Shirva, Pangala and nearby villages are facing the threat of ravaging floods owing to continuous rainfall since a few days.
A few villages are marooned because of floods, a usual sight during monsoons.
The access road of Alady in Pangala has been cut off as a result of floods. The Padubelle and Moodubelle roads have also been flooded.
As many as 21 houses have been inundated in Matadakudru, Udyavar.
