Udupi, Aug 10: The district largest mosque, Jamia Masjid, with a capacity to accomodate 3,000 worshipers at a time and built at a cost of Rs 4 crore, was inaugurated here on Friday August 10.
Hidayatulla Abbas Ucchil, who bore 90 percent of the construction cost, inaugurated the mosque.
Speaking on the occasion, Hidayatulla Abbas urged the community youth to come forward and set up hospitals, schools and colleges. He also assured his support in this regard.
Addressing the gathering, chairman of state Wakf Board R Abdul Riyaz Khan said that Jamia Masjid's land is among the 150 lands recognized by the Wakf Board.
"We must be united in our efforts to achieve higher goals and success. Education for the Muslim community is a must, and all should join hands to build a better future," he said.
"As per statistics, in India 80,000 women become lawyers every year, of which only 5,000 are Muslims. Even among those 5,000, only 2,000 Muslims are practicing. Moreover, less than two percent of the government sector employees are Muslims. This situation should change, and we ourselves need to do it," he stressed.
He also spoke on the necessity to help the poor and said, "We need to work on the aspect of providing help to the poor. There should not be any difference between the poor and the rich, as all are equal in front of Allah. The youth especially have to be united and voluntarily help the poor to come up in life and build a great future for Muslims in India."
He also said that Jamia mosque will include a 'Madrasa' and ‘Duniya-E-Thavi’.
He also spoke on the commercial feasibility of the mosque and said that there will be around 200 to 300 commercial set-ups in and around the mosque, from which a profit of Rs one crore is expected. The profit earned will be used for community welfare, he said.
Jamia Masjid Imam Moulana Mohiuddin Jilani Juma delivered the Friday sermon.
Former MLC K S Mohammed Masood, Hidayath Group of Industries CEO Imran Hidayathulla, Dubai, president of Jamia mosque managing committee T S Budan Basha, vice-president Athif Hussian, secretary Qamaruddin M and others were present.
