Udupi, Aug 10: Unprecedented floods hit Uppoor village here on the intervening night of Thursday August 9 and Friday August 10, causing widespread damage.
It is said that though Uppoor has experienced floods before, the extent and volume of water is higher this time. The floods are a result of the incessant rains that have lashed the district and also the ghat section. The ongoing highway work has worsened the situation, as the water has no outlet to flow.
Several houses have been submerged, and communication and transport has been affected. There is no report of loss of life or injury as yet.
It is said that the flooding began at 9 pm on Thursday night and worsened in the wee hours of Friday.
The floods have reportedly spread to other places like Mabukal and KG Road also.
Brahmavar police are making rounds of the flood-hit areas. Schools and colleges across Udupi district will remain closed.
