Mangalore, Aug 2: "Regional parties are gaining importance due to failure of the national parties. Young people who keep up to date with news are aware of the failure of the BJP-led government in the state and the Congress-led government at the centre. Hence, in the next elections, the new chief minister will emerge from the BSR Congress party," said BSR Congress party chief B Sriramulu.
He was addressing a programme at Town Hall organized as part of his 'Swabhimani Sankalpa Yatra' which arrived in the city on Thursday August 2.
He said that BJP was once known as a party with discipline, but now is a sinking ship. "Not even a single project promised for the state has been finished, and BPL cards are not being distributed to people on time. Monthly pensions are also pending," he said.
Coming down heavily on the UPA-led central government, he said the reputation of the central government had been marred by corruption allegations, and that a strong Lokpal Bill was the need of the hour.
He said his party will distribute laptops to each student after his or her SSLC, and scooters to the physically challenged.
"Those who have lost their land to SEZ projects will be given jobs if BSR Congress party comes to power in the state," he said, and assured that rice for the poor will be distributed at Rs 2 per kg if his party were to win the next elections.
Addressing reporters later, Sriramulu said that the party’s base is getting strengthened in rural places and that BSR Congress is sure to emerge as the single largest party to lead the state.
To a query on Kampli MLA Suresh Babu’s confession before the ACB (anti-corruption bureau) that he (Sriramulu) had co-operated in the cash-for-bail deal, Sriramulu declined to comment saying that the matter is in court. To another query on whether regional parties could harm the interests of the nation if they come to power in the state, he said that it was a misconception and brushed aside such possibilities.
Earlier BSR Congress party workers carried out a procession from Jyothi circle to Town Hall. Party leaders Rakshita, Venkatesh Gowda, Dinesh, Lokesh Mendon, Roopashree, Rekha, Khalid Ahmed, Praveen Pinto, Praveen Peter among others were present.
