Ponda: Illegal Snake Venom Trade Busted, Eight Arrested

Ponda, Aug 1: After busting the racket of fake currency notes recently, the police have now successfully arrested the gang of eight people for their alleged involvement in snake venom trading.

North Goa SP Vijay Singh while addressing media on Tuesday July 31 evening said that police have recovered 930ml of snake venom worth Rs. 1.5 crore in international market. They have also linked two alleged cars in connection with this case.

Police sources said that suspects were carrying this trade from Ponda, Cancona and Vasco and may also have connection with those involved in drugs trade.

From vegetable vendor to cyber cafe owner and businessman dealing with cameras are suspected to be involved in this trade.

Sources said that this venom is used for manufacturing narcotic drugs and anti venom medicines.

All accused have been booked under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972. Ponda police are further investigating the case.
