Mangalore: Tiger at Pilikula Attacks, Kills Employee

Mangalore, Aug 1: In a rare and tragic incident, a tiger at Pilikula Nisargadhama killed an employee late night on Tuesday July 31.

The deceased has been identified as Kushalappa Gowda. He used to feed the animals, including the tiger at Pilikula.

It is said that the tiger, identified as Raja, was unwell and on July 31 afternoon, the veterinary doctors had examined and given it medicines.
 
At around 11 pm, Kushalappa is said to have gone to the tiger's cage to check on it, but never returned.

After some time, the watchman went to check what was keeping Kushalappa back, and was shocked to see the tiger outside the cage. He immediately raised an alarm.

Kushalappa was found dead with tiger bite marks on his neck.

    Pilikula Has compensated 1 Lakh and he also had a Insurance of One lakh which was sanctioned to his family. Pilikula Team were also working on sume funds to be released from CM funds This is a Natural behaviour of A tiger, this cannot be considered as an attack. The main cage was open still the Tiger dint went out and dint ate any of the body. Before commenting Please gather all the information.

    First of all i would like to express my regret. May Mr.Kushalappa Gowda's soul Rest in peace.
    Dear Muslim readers, I'm sorry but I feel pity on you for your laziness and irresponsibility. The news published above also deserves your responses and opinions. Don't you have time to write a single line to express sad about a poor's death?!! I appreciate your response about recent issues happened in Mangalore.Their was more than 1000 comments to different news related to the home stay riot justifying and supporting youth modernization. Ofcourse i'm not against it.
    Whatever, This is an serious issue about safety of a public zoo located in our home city. Mr.Kushalappa's death is a warning about the safety arrangement designed for a public zoo. Our reactions, Openions and expressing diagreement also our responsibility with our society as well as with our families. Dear brothers lets extend our care towards socity, don let socity misunderstand or judge our ethics. Hope you'll understand my intension.

    Kushalappa Gowda, may your soul RIP and give comfort to the bereaved family and friends. Anybody dealing with wild animals have to be very careful. They may be friendly at times but sometimes they may go wild for various reasons.

    Very Sad incident. This is a clear indication of lack of Safety in Pilikula and an unsafe approach to the animal.

    Need to be arrange proper guidance to all workers and proper safety measures shall maintained in around the areas for all.

    Very sad to loose a precious life. We could help in collecting some amount for his family as they have lost a young bread winner. He took care of the tiger like his own kid and it got misfired one day.

    The attack may be as a reult of the tiger's pain and unbearable suffering. When sick, wild animals usually turn cruel. Perhaps the vetinarians didn't advice Mr.Kushalappa regarding the danger posed by sick animals. Indeed the loss of human life is very tragic.

    A loss of life, a point towards carelessness.A very sad incident of Pilikula.Safety and protection in Pilikula should go side by side,neglecting either one , is said to be a grave danger. May his 'soul rest peace'. Sometime we should not forget Darwin's Theory of this nature 'Survival of the fittest'.

    I’m really sorry & shocked to hear about the tragic death of Kushalappa Gowda. I used to interact with him & other personnel looking after the animals, birds & reptiles at Pilikula Zoo during all my visits there. The last opportunity I had to meet Kushalappa was on 29th December 2011.

    Kushalappa has also cared for “Leo”, my adopted Leopard Cat at the Pilikula Zoo. He (Kushalappa) has done a wonderful job & the present care-taker too, is very dedicated.

    It used to be Kushallappa or at times the other personnel working at the Zoo who used to take me around & explain about the animals, birds & reptiles. I used to observe how the wild animals especially the Tigers, Lions & Leopards, respond to Kushalappa’s voice!

    It is indeed very sad & unfortunate that Kushalappa had to meet such an end to his life. Trust, the authorities take & implement appropriate safety measures for all the personnel working at the Zoo.

    They (staff) at Pilikula Zoo are really doing a wonderful job.

    Tiger raja was 'not unwell' means
    well... he was well! Therefore maybe he attacked the helpless
    (god bless his soul) Gowda who though he was unwell.
    Moral: Have safety measures in place, whatever the circumstance.
    whilst tending to wild animals.
