Mangalore, Aug 1 : If the culprits behind the 2009 pub attack had been punished properly, the 'Morning Mist' Home Stay incident would probably not have taken place on Saturday on July 28. The person who was instrumental in carrying out the 2009 attack in city's Amnesia pub, and who was caught and charged by the police, was out on bail within three months of the attack !
The liberal law perhaps prompted him to carry out another similar attack, but a much more damaging one, on Saturday at Padil.
This time, Subhash Padil cannot not expect bail in three months, and is likely to be behind the grills for a much longer period than that. The reason being, he has been charged with rioting, assault, abuse, life threat, molestation, dacoity and property damage.
Sources close to Subhash told daijiworld that 36-year-old Subash Padil, intially a Bajrang Dal member, joined Sri Rama Sene in the year 2008. Since he was involved in extortion cases, Rama Sene reportedly ousted him.
Later, he joined Hindu Janajagarana Vedike, and carried out the Saturday birthday bash assault. The HJV convener said that he carried out the assault not as a member of HJV, but as a Padil resident, as he was aware of what was happening around.
"The prime reason for the incident was that a group of youth suspected that Muslim boys were partying with Hindu girls in Morning Mist Home Stay," a Padil resident says.
"By the time they realized that it was not true, it was too late. The 'game' was not well planned, and the boys got overexcited and went beyond one's imagination," the person said.
Subhash Padil's history says he was booked by the Mangalore rural police for rioting in the year 2005, damaging property in 2006, rioting again in 2009 and 2011 and this time with all of them - rioting, assault, abuse, life threat, molestation, dacoity and property damage.
