Mangalore: Leaders, Public Bid Tearful Adieu to Bondala

Bantwal/ Mangalore, Aug 1: The mortal remains of Congress leader Bondala Jagannath Shetty, who passed away in a road mishap on Tuesday July 31, was placed for about half-an-hour at B C Road at 2.15 pm on Wednesday August 1 for the public to pay homage.
Leaders of different political parties offered tributes to Bondala Jagannath Shetty. Party activists from Puttur, Beltangady, Mangalore and Sullia offered their last respects.

At Mangalore, a sea of politicians, supporters and public gathered in front of the district Congress office here on Wednesday August 1 to pay their tributes to Congress leader Bondala Jagannath Shetty, who passed away in an accident on Tuesday July 31 night.
Former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake after paying his respects to the departed said that Bondala was a secular leader and had supporters from all sections of the society. "Though he had lost the previous elections he continued working hard for the welfare of the people," he said.
DK district Congress president Ramanath Rai said that the party had lost a promising young leader and that his sudden death was a great loss to the party.
MLA U T Khader, district Congress secretary T K Sudhir, former mayor Ashraf, M S Mohammed, Denis D’Silva, Stany Alvares, JD(S) leader M G Hegde among others paid homage to the departed soul.
Later the body was taken in a procession to his residence in Bantwal, amid a large gathering of fans and supporters.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Proprietor of Property Infra-tech managing director Rohan Monteiro, a good friend of the late Congress leader, recalled the last time he had met Bondala, just an hour before the tragedy. "It is hard to believe Bondala is no more. Just an hour before the accident he was at my house. It is an irreparable loss," he said. He described Bondala as a selfless man whose priority was to serve people.

Puttur, Jul 31 : In a shocking news, Bondala Jagannath Shetty, a Congress leader from Bantwal-Puttur region who had held the DK district Youth Congress president's post from 2001 to 2009, died on the spot when his Fortuner SUV collided with a gas tanker near Panemangalore on Tuesday, July 31 at around 11 pm.
An ace politician in the making, Bondala was popular not only around Puttur taluk, but all over the DK district for his selfless nature and social service.
He contested the 2008 assembly elections and lost to Dr Mallika Prasad of BJP by about 1,500 votes.
In 1999, he became the general secretary of Karnataka Youth Congress committee, and general secretary of Karnataka state youth INTUC the same year. In 2000 he held the post of conveyor of KSRTC Employees Union (INTUC) Mangalore Division, and went on to become president of DK Youth Congress in 2001, a post he held till 2009.
46-year-old Shetty leaves behind his wife, a daughter, and a number of well-wishers.
