Mangalore: Police Nab Chain Snatchers, Recover Gold Jewellery Worth Rs 5 Lac

Mangalore, Jul 30: The Suratkal police arrested two on Sunday July 29 in connection with several chain-snatching incidents across the city. They also recovered 160 gm of gold jewellery worth Rs 5 lac and a two-wheeler used in the crime.
The arrested have been identified as 24-year-old Mohammed Rafiq, a resident of B C Road in Bantwal taluk, and 23-year-old Sarfaraz, a resident of Salmara in Puttur taluk.
The police were successful in nabbing the duo after probing the chain-snatching incident relating to Geeta Shetty at Udaya Nagar, Padre, on July 11. The duo were involved in chain-snatching cases in Nadugod in the limits of Bajpe police station, Neermarga, in the limits of Mangalore rural police station, Mangaladevi, and limits of Pandeshwar police station. Attempted burglary cases were registered against Rafiq at Barke police station and in Moodbidri town.
Rafiq is a graduate while Sarfaraz, having studied fire and safety engineering, is employed in Barucha Group at Pune. Sarfaraz was on vacation and involved in the crime along with his associate Rafiq.
The two-wheeler that was used in the crime belonged to a person residing in Karkala. Despite having eight owners vehicle, nobody bothered to change their ownership in its original registration papers.
Suratkal sub-inspector K U Belliappa, Ramesh, Vijayraj, Chandrashekar, Ramachandra, Durgaprasad, Vinod, Raja, Girish, Dilip, Honnappa, and Suresh were involved in this operation.
Suratkal police registered a case in this regard and the duo was presented before the judge.
