Mangalore: Fire Breaks Out at Kinnigoli Market, Two Shops Gutted

Mangalore, Jul 28: A major fire broke out at around 12.50 am on Saturday July 28 in the market at Panchayat Lane Building, next to SCDCC Bank here in Kinnigoli, in which two shops were totally gutted and one shop was partially damaged.
The security guard of Anugraha Jewellers who saw the flames first raised an alarm and informed the police and the fire brigade.
A vegetable shop owned by Venkappa and a fruit shop belonging to Shettigar were totally damaged in the fire while a footwear store was partially damaged.
A sum of Rs 30,000 borrowed by the vegetable vendor from a bank to pay dues to vegetable suppliers, was reduced to ashes. Fire brigade rushed to the spot and managed to bring the fire under control, but the damage was already done.
A loss of around Rs 2 lac including cash and goods was reported.
Mulky police rushed to the spot to ascertain the extent of damage. Locals also helped in the rescue operation. It it learnt that short circuit was the cause for the fire.
