Mangalore: MCC Raids Street Vendors Again, This Time over Plastic

Mangalore, Jul 24: In a surprise raid, MCC officials swooped down on street vendors near State Bank and Central Market areas here on Tuesday July 24, for using plastic items with thickness less than 40 microns.
On inspection, the officials found that some of the street vendors use plastic with thickness of 20 microns. While interrogating them on the sources of these plastics, some vendors said that they purchase them from a man who often comes in a bike to sell plastics, while a few said they buy them from a wholesale shop near State Bank.
The officials also carried out raid in the wholesale store and found plastics less than 40 microns. They then warned the shop owner and sealed the shop until further notice.
Speaking to Daijiworld, one of the MCC officials said, apar from seizing plastic items and sealing the shop, the inspectors also collected a fine of Rs 2,650 from the vendors.
The raid was carried out by environment officer Madhu, inspector Sushanth, Santhosh, Yeshwanth Bhat and Basavaraj among others.
