Udupi: Newly-formed District Cricket Association Launched

Udupi, Jul 23: The newly-formed Udupi District Cricket Association (UDCA) was launched at Valley View hotel in Manipal here on Sunday July 22.
Ratnakar Shetty, administrative officer of BCCI inaugurated the Association and SMH Kirmani, director of Karnataka state cricket association was the chief guest. Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor of Manipal university presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Shetty said that for good cricket players to emerge, it is important that the district cricket association appoints qualified coaches. "Cricket is not just about players, equal importance has to be given to train umpires, scorers and coaches," he said.
He said BCCI will provide assistance to the district cricket association through the state cricket association. He lauded the Karnataka state cricket association for producing excellent players for the nation.
Syed Kirmani, former Indian cricket player said that the academy has organized 33 summer camps across 23 districts this year. An oriental cricket camp for all ages was organized at Bangalore. "We have many talented cricketers and it is necessary to provide proper training to them," he said.
New office-bearers were congratulated on the occassion. Dr Krishnaprasad, president welcomed the gathering, Vasu Sherigar read the report and professor Balakrishna Maddodi compered the function.
Dr Srikath Rai, Mangalore DKCA president, Dr Ramdas M Pai, chancellor of Manipal University, Prabhakar Shetty among others were present.
