Panaji, Jul 20 (IBNS): Goa police Thursday busted a gang of burglars involving notorious criminal Vinay Haldankar, a security guard and four underage boys.
Vinay alias Fadinda a Class X dropout, involved in eight theft cases, was arrested from a private hospital in Panaji where he was undergoing drug detoxification treatment.
The preliminary investigation has revealed interesting facts about how the burglar would commit crime although being admitted to the hospital.
Calangute police inspector Nolasco Rapose told reporters that Fadinda would lock the hospital room door from inside during the wee hours and jump out from the bathroom window, attached to the room.
“After committing thefts, Fadinda would return back to his hospital room without any suspicions. During his stay in the hospital since June 9, he has committed two thefts,” the cop informed.
The history-sheeter would often target plush hotels along the coastal stretch and other tourist locations. The police team has recovered 8 mobile phones and Rs 25,000 cash from his possession.
“He took advantage of the bail he was granted by the court on April 13. We arrested him from the hospital room before he could give the doctors a slip again,” the officer said.
The hospital’s security guard Amol Chawan, aged 19, who was sold the stolen property, was also arrested whereas the minors were lodged in the shelter home Apna Ghar.
