Rio de Janeiro, Jul 18 (IANS): Chile international midfielder Jorge Valdivia has ended speculation about his future by agreeing to remain at Brazilian club Palmeiras for at least another year.
Valdivia vowed never to play in Brazil again after he and his wife were briefly kidnapped and robbed in Sao Paulo last month, reports Xinhua.
"There has been a lot of talk about him, but he is going to stay with us and complete his contract," Palmeiras vice-president Roberto Frizzo said Tuesday.
The 28-year-old has admitted to being emotionally traumatized by the incident.
But he returned from a three-week absence to play a key role in Palmeiras' Copa do Brasil triumph with a goal in the first leg of the final against Coritiba.
Valdivia's wife and two children, who travelled to Santiago to be with relatives following the ordeal, are expected to return to Sao Paulo this week.
