Mangalore: Thieves Target Jewellery Store, Decamp with Gold, Silver Worth Rs 8 Lac

Mangalore, Jul 12: Gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 8.2 lac were stolen from a jewellery store on Kinnigoli main road here on Thursday July 12.
The thieves broke open the shutters of Anugraha Jewellers, owned by Pratviraj Acharya, using hydraulic jack. The thieves decamped with 170 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 4.68 lac and silver worth Rs 3.52 lac, placed in a safe.
The CCTV installed at the jewellery store recorded the theft, and captured footages of the thieves from between 1.58 am to 2.35 am. The CCTV was installed only recently, following the failed burglary attempt at Syndicate Bank, Kinnigoli branch.
The owners of Yugapurusha Building, where the jewllery store is located, had appointed a night watchman, but the thieves were in luck as he was on leave.
The police are looking into other similar thefts using hydraulic jack that took place in Nirmal Jewellery at Suratkal, Durga Jewellery and Padmashree Jewellery at Haleangady a few months ago, in a bid to find a breakthrough related to the case.
Panambur ACP Puttamadayya, Mulky circle inspector Basheer Ahmed and sub-inspector Sunil paid a visit to the crime spot.
Mulky police registered a case in this regard and investigations are under way.
