Bangalore: Shettar Cabinet: Miffed Coastal MLAs Protest, Nagaraj Shetty Quits CDA

Bangalore, Jul 12: Soon after the swearing-in ceremony of new chief minister Jagadish Shettar and his cabinet on Thursday July 12, the MLAs from coastal districts and their supporters began an impromptu protest for neglecting coastal Karnataka in cabinet formation.
The MLAs and their protestors protested against former CM B S Yeddyurappa and gheraoed him. They alleged that deserving MLAs from the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi were being given step-motherly treatment and denied ministerial berths.
Six MLAs - Yogish Bhat, Raghupati Bhat, Mallika Prasad, Laxminarayan, Halady Srinivas Shetty and Lalaji Mendon reportedly offered to quit in protest.
According to latest reports, Nagaraj Shetty too has quit as chairman of coastal development
authority. It is said that he had already been contemplating resignation as he was not sure of getting ticket to contest the next elections.
The protestors in Bangalore gathered outsid the Raj Bhavan and shouted slogans against Yeddyurappa.
They were miffed with the fact that MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty, an aspirant for the minister's post, was not given any berth, while MLC Srinivas Poojary was chosen. Poojary is the only face from the coastal cities in the cabinet.

Kundapur, Jul 12: Supporters of Halady Srinivas Shetty expressed their ire by forcibly shutting down shops and lighting fire on the roads.
A bandh has been called on Friday July 13 as a mark of protest.
The protest was fuelled by Kundapur constituency BJP president Kishore Kumar, Mohandas Shenoy of town minucipal and others.
Also, in Udupi city municipal council, 11 members resigned in protest against Shettar and Yeddyurappa.
The protests were held in Kundapur, Halady, Bittalkatte and other places.
